Communications professionals win five awards at CASE V conference RELEASED: Jan. 26, 2010 EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire advancement and communications staff members received five awards at the 2009 Council for Advancement and Support of Education Great Lakes District V conference, held Dec. 13-15 in Chicago, Ill. UW-Eau Claire was one of 66 educational institutions honored as part of the 2009 Pride of CASE V awards program. A total of 134 awards were presented to CASE V members. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., CASE is the professional organization for advancement professionals at all levels who work in alumni relations, communications and development. CASE District V includes 400 member institutions in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. The district awards competition honored advancement and communications professionals in 49 categories. Judging for the competition is conducted by advancement professionals outside of the Great Lakes district. Ann Hoffman, senior editor in UW-Eau Claire's News Bureau, serves on the CASE V board of directors and is chair of the Pride of CASE V awards program. Mari Jo Janke, director of the Publications Office, serves as vice chair. Gold Award winners were: * Teresa Du Bois Exline Award for Best Practices in Communications and Marketing: Gretchen Hutterli, assistant dean/external affairs, College of Business; Bonnie Krahn, graphic artist, College of Business; and Meredith Wolf, communications and events coordinator, College of Business; for the College of Business program "The Great Northwoods Sales Warm-Up." Silver Award winners were: * Best Practices in Fundraising and Development: Kate Hartsel, communications specialist, News Bureau; Mindy Merryfield, artist, Publications Office; Karl Markgraf, director of the Center for International Education; Sally Webb, development officer, UW-Eau Claire Foundation; and Kimera Way, executive director, UW-Eau Claire Foundation; for their work on the project "Center for International Education — Funding Global Learning." * Excellence in Photography, People and Portraits: Bill Hoepner, digital asset manager/photographer, Learning and Technology Services, for "We Rock," used for a university women's gymnastics team poster.
