Utilizing Lean Techniques to Streamline the Process of Customer Supplies for Sleep Apnea

Abstract

The objective of this study was to streamline the process for customers at Acme Home Medical Equipment to obtain their supplies for sleep apnea. Meeting this objective required the assessment and understanding of the current state of the process. This study used lean methodologies of process improvement to identify the wastes and areas of improvement. The use of process flow mapping and waste identification led to an improved process flow which changed the process by which customers obtain supplies. Utilizing Pareto’s principle and kanban achieved significant inventory reduction. The conclusions of this study demonstrated the benefits of utilizing lean techniques in the healthcare environment to have a positive impact on financial reports.
