Abstract

In this paper, the author shows how process writing in English writing classrooms has become an essential way to improve students' writing abilities and the author discusses how to implement process writing in EFL writing classrooms. First, the author provides descriptions of process writing and other writing approaches. In the second part, the author discusses process writing in detail. Then after defining process, the author explains the features of process writing and compares it to the product writing approach. Next, the author compares L1 (first language) with L2 (second language) writing processes and skilled with unskilled writers' writing processes. Then, the author examines the recursive nature of the writing process and introduces the stages of the writing process and classroom activities for each stage. In addition, the author investigates how to give feedback on students' writing and how to use portfolios in process writing classrooms.
