Abstract

Polymers are composed of covalently bonded repeating units. "Smart" polymers are polymers that can dramatically change their properties in response to a small change in external stimuli. Smart polymers are of interest for their potential use in waste water treatment plants to remove hydrophobic contaminants, such as disperse dyes which are often unrecovered through traditional purification methods.
