Abstract

An experimental study, to determine the value of rope skipping to improve performance in the vertical jump, was performed. Four class periods were devoted to mastering the jumping technique. Three groups, one control and two experimental, consisting of volunteer ninth grade boys, were tested on the vertical jump by the jump and reach method. During the next four week period, the two experimental groups participated, each day, in rope skipping exercises. The vertical jump test was re-administered at the end of this period. Both experimental groups did slightly better than the control group on the final test. The improvement, however, was not enough to be statistically significant.
