A Framework to Standardize E-learning Development for Healthcare Workers Using a Centralized LMS Strategy

Abstract

Training content at ABC Health is created across departments with minimal coordination, resulting in inconsistent quality, duplicated efforts, unclear prioritization, and limited alignment with organizational strategy. The purpose of this qualitative study was to examine whether establishing a centralized department to oversee Learning Management System (LMS) based e- learning would improve the quality and consistency of training at ABC Health. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with educators, employees, and leaders to explore current practices, adult learning needs, and the factors influencing training design and delivery. Findings revealed insufficient time as the greatest barrier to both creating and completing education, widespread challenges with the LMS, and the need for centralized processes to reduce siloed efforts and enhance consistency. Recommendations include establishing learning governance structures, strengthening instructional design capacity, improving LMS support and standards, and incorporating more experiential learning opportunities. Implementing these strategies may improve training effectiveness, enhance staff competence, and support better patient care across the organization.
