Oral History Interview, Carla Schubert (2409)

Abstract

Academic Staff Award winter Carla Schubert talks about her journey as a medical researcher, beginning from her undergraduate studies in Medical Technology from the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse. Schubert speaks about experience spanning from the 1980s and up to the time of the interview. She describes her role in data collection and analysis in the 25-year studies on hearing loss and sensory health conducted in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. She also talks about her intellectual contributions in the field of aging, cognitive, and olfactory impairment. In her follow up interview, Schubert discusses the impact of technological advances on her career, including access to scientific literature online, changes in data collection practices, and digital ultrasound and eye images. She also discusses covid-19 and her thoughts on winning the award. This interview was conducted for inclusion into the UW-Madison Archives and Records Management Oral History Program as part of the Academic Staff Award Winners Oral History Project.
