Abstract
In his April 1994 interview with Mary Anne Long, Professor Orville Shetney recounts his undergraduate years at UW-Madison from 1937 to 1941 during a formative period in UW’s School of Music. Shetney recounts various prominent figures in the School of Music, their decisions in the department, and their relationships with others at UW, such as Carl Bricken and Charles Mills. Shetney also recounts his experience in taking classes with various School of Music professors and his participation in the Haresfoot Club Band. Throughout his account, Shetney provides historical context and his observations of social and academic trends over time. This interview was conducted for inclusion into the School of Music 1994 Oral History Project within the University Archives’ Oral History Collection.
