Abstract
Judith Figi served in the Peace Corps from 1964-1967 in Sierra Leone. She was a teacher at an all girls school called Hartford. She talks about how optimistic and advance the country of Sierra Leone was in the 1960s after having recently won its independence from Great Britain. She was sadden but how much the country had regressed due to the civil war. When the Peace Corps left the country to the violence, she lobbied the US government and the government of Sierra Leone to get the organization to return. She was successfully in the end. She enjoyed her experiences in the Peace Corps and she does work to help prevent Malaria in Sierra Leone.
