Abstract

The objective of this report is to provide the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) with an in-depth discussion of the various alternatives currently available for evaluating asphalt concrete mixtures and pavements in the field. An extensive literature review of current test methods and devices which can be used to evaluate asphalt concrete mixtures was conducted. Also, creep and recovery and indentation tests were performed at Rowan University to investigate their potentials as plant and field quality control tests, respectively. The results of these tests, as well as the results of the literature review, are presented in this report. Finally, recommendations are made to WisDOT as to which method/device would be best for evaluating asphalt concrete mixtures and pavements in the field.
