Abstract

Description

Abstract: In his nine interviews with Art Hove, Henry Lufler reflects about his years of service to the city of Madison and the University of Wisconsin from the 1960s to the 2000s. He discusses influences on his political consciousness and his decade long advocacy for East Madison on the City Council. He also details personalities, policies, and the inner workings of the School of Education and the Chancellor's office under David Ward. Lufler offers his opinions about the current condition of Wisconsin state politics, effective styles of leadership and management, the relationship between the state and the university, and how changes in the university will affect the way it needs to be operated into the future. This interview was conducted for inclusion in the University of Wisconsin Oral History Project.
