Abstract

In her 2017 interview with Kristen Whitson, Stephanie Marquis details her career path and current position as Director of Communications - University Relations for the University of Wisconsin System. In this oral history, Marquis explains why she decided to enroll at UW-Madison after years in the workforce and reflects on her experience as a non-traditional student. After earning a Bachelor's degree in Communications from UW-Madison, Marquis worked as a news reporter, then in public relations for the Department of Health and Family Services. She worked under both the Doyle and Walker administrations before joining the UW System in 2016. Throughout the interview, Marquis offers anecdotes and draws on personal experiences, including some that demonstrate the gender bias of the communications field.
