Abstract

The goal of this paper was to use lean evaluation tools to identify and make a recommendation for improving the propane cylinder fill process. The project participants utilized the process map to identify value-added and nonvalue-added functions of the process for opportunities for improvement. In addition, time observations and defect data were used for gathering information to isolate bottlenecks and excessive handling. The data gathered from process mapping and time tests were also utilized to make recommendations to management to develop an improvement plan. Additionally, metrics were established to monitor the process to aid in the future improvements once the initial changes were made to maintain positive flow of product.
