Oral History Interview, Louis Kaplan (122)

Abstract

In these interviews, Director of Libraries and Library Science Professor Dr. Louis Kaplan discusses his relations with presides E.B. Fred, Conrad Elvehjem, and Fred Harrington, and with two state governors, Gaylord Nelson and Patrick Lucy concerning the context of his own work in the planning and building of Memorial Library, in building up the collections, and in the planning of other libraries on campus. Omitted from this oral history are Dr. Kaplan’s Relations with the library staff, and matters that can be described as largely internal to library affairs. The history of these affairs can be found in the annual reports of the director and in the various pieces of correspondence turned over to the University Archives.
