Abstract

Arithmetic word problems are difficult for all children; even more so for children with low oral language skill. Prior research demonstrates that typically developing children generate and select a wide variety of strategies during math problem-solving tasks. If we can develop a deeper understanding of how children with low oral language skill solve word problems, we can then design interventions to improve their problem solving skills and their comprehension of classroom and curriculum language.
