Abstract

The third forum in our series on The Challenge of Access and Persistence focused on the role of pre-college programs, providing the opportunity for participants from both K-12 and postsecondary education perspectives to discuss key issues including: * What kinds of pre-college programs are most effective? Do these programs require university partnership or input? * Who should be responsible for pre-college programs? * In a time of reduced state expenditures for postsecondary education, are pre-college programs the best investment of scarce resources? In light of the anticipated debate about accountability in higher education education as part of the federal reauthorization of the Higher Education Act, participants joined us for this in-depth look at an important aspect of the questions surrounding postsecondary access and persistence.
