Archaeological artifacts from the Middle East offer important insights into the evolution of early human civilization. This study documents the initial water content of 96 individual volcanic flows in the Middle East, and measures the diffusion rate of the advancing hydration rim to date and locate the source of several obsidian artifacts from the Middle East.en
