Abstract

Compensatory behaviors after binge eating have the potential to lead to more binge eating because those behaviors could be used as a method to control the weight gain threat posed by binge eating. Utilizing the EPPM, this study tested the impact of compensatory behaviors-related self-efficacy and response efficacy on binge eating behaviors. 244 Chinese women participated in the survey. The results showed that compensatory behaviors-related self-efficacy was related to more frequent compensatory behaviors and binge eating, while the influence of response efficacy was not significant. This has practical implications for binge eating intervention.
