Abstract
1,1,2-Trichloroethane (ethane trichloride or vinyl trichloride) is a nonflammable liquid used as a
solvent in cleaning metal and in cleaning plastic molds. It is also used in the manufacture of
1,1-dichloro ethylene and other organic chemicals. It is highly soluble in water, and may enter
the aquatic environment via discharges from industries where it is used as a solvent, chlorinated
effluents from municipal waste treatment plants, or spills.
