Abstract
In her 2025 interview with Dadit Gunarwanto Hidayat, Tawnya Cary discusses her career teaching biology at Beloit College, along with her involvement with WiscAMP. She worked with WiscAMP for nine years as co-director and director. Tawnya Cary grew up in Iowa and was a first generation college student, which informed her mentorship with her students. She came to Wisconsin to be a lab manager and pursue a PhD in environmental toxicology. Her postdoctoral work was in biology education research, which brought her to Beloit. Tawnya Cary found her work with WiscAMP to be incredibly fulfilling, encouraging students to seek support and build collaborative relationships, with peer mentors providing advice and networks for underrepresented minority students. This interview was conducted for inclusion into the WiscAMP Legacy Oral History Project and the UW-Madison Archives and Records Management oral history collection.
