Abstract

A school counselor has many unique skills and opportunities to help students achieve academically. School counselors must be culturally aware of their current counseling role and practices as they pertain to working with students from diverse backgrounds. This literature review identifies interventions for working with students and developing cross-cultural relationship with them. Closing the achievement takes effort from all stakeholders of the school as everyone needs to come together to recognize the problem and work to find solutions. School counselors can play an important role in creating an environment that engages everyone including staff, families, communities, and peers, to address the issue of recognizing diversity in the school setting.
