Horseback riding is one of the most controversial uses of trails because of the great impact horses have on the environment. In a state such as Wisconsin where few horse trails exist, the heavy use of those trails exhibits a need for a sound planning, construction, and maintenance program. This report gives a basic outline for the management of horse trails. The concepts presented here can be used when planning for other trail uses as well.en_US
