Applying Some of the Lean Manufacturing Tools on the Foaming Area in Company XYZ

Abstract

This study examined the foaming area production process of Company XYZ in order to improve the production process layout. Waste in space, effort, and money were present at the time of observation. The study pointed out the cause of the problems and suggested methods of how to overcome these problems. Lean manufacturing tools were used, including 5S, some of the eight types of waste reduction, an A3 report, and a Spaghetti Diagram. The lack of organization of the assembly tables and the random method of stocking materials caused much waste for Company XYZ. This study used the lean tools to eliminate wastes and improve the production process efficiency and productivity. The study developed a new layout of the foaming area, in which the production process runs much more efficiently with much less cost of money and effort.
