Abstract

In his six interviews with Barry Teicher, Roger Howard summarizes his three decades of work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, from the late 1960s to the early 2000s. He focuses on the influence of his Peace Corps experience in Tanzania, his direction of Witte Residence Hall and his work under Paul Ginsberg in the Dean of Students’ office. He offers his recollections and insights on a range of issues from the implementation of student and faculty discriminatory speech codes; developing positive campus climate; student suicide prevention; academic and non-academic student conduct codes; and student involvement in university governance. This interview was conducted for inclusion into the UW-Madison Oral History Program.
