Abstract
Providing for the physical and emotional safety and welfare of children is the highest priority for schools across the country. Districts and administrators face a variety of challenges in developing and implementing school safety plans and policies. It is of importance to implement systems that will be effective at reducing violence and encouraging a positive school climate while also meeting funding and staffing challenges. This proposal seeks to examine the possible effectiveness of high quality video surveillance on reducing instances of violence and other undesirable student behaviors in a select tribal school located on an Ojibwe Reservation in Wisconsin. Additionally, the study seeks to understand the possible impact on the perception of safety among students and staff that high quality video surveillance may have.
