Web-based media for cross-cultural communication in asynchronous processes among international students at the University of Wisconsin-Stout

Abstract

International students are important demographic in the US higher education, they make contribution to the financial health of many universities. Researches shows that international students are dealing with issues such as academic challenges, social isolation, language barriers, and cultural differences. This thesis paper describes the design and development process of a user-generated content website targeting international students at University of Wisconsin-Stout. This website focuses on community building and provides a platform for international students to share information. The future implication of this project will expand this website to more campuses and analyze web content created by users to get a better understanding of international students.
