David Hassemer, recently retired, worked in the Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene and he recounts his long tenure at said lab. He details his almost 40 year history at the lab. Hassemer recalls how he was hired as a clinical chemist in the early 1970s where he emphasizes his and the lab's role in developing new chemical testing techniques. He also describes the lab's role in pioneering new born disease screening but overall the lab did generalize testing for the state and for various departments within UW-Madison.en
