This project aims to measure the quantity of respirable silica particles in area sand mines. Research has shown a correlation between the presence of silicon dioxide air particulates and both silicosis and lung cancer, so high levels could be hazardous to public health. Sandstone in the mines contains silicon dioxide in the form of quartz, and large quantities of respirable silica in the air could impact the health of both the miners and people living in the near vicinity.en
