Abstract
A forest management plan data base was obtained from a
timber inventory conducted on the 228 acre City of Stevens
Point Water Department property in Portage County,
Wisconsin. One-tenth and 0.05 acre fixed radius plots were
used in a systematic 10% by area cruise of each stand on the
property. Data analysis was performed on the Burroughs 6900
Mainframe computer system at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens
Point. The SPSS (Statistical Package for Social
Sciences) statistical package was used for primary data
reduction on the mainframe, while stand summary sheets were
developed using the LOTUS 123 spreadsheet package on a 256K
IBM PC. This management plan, designed to be a flexible
landowner guide for achieving sustained production, will aid
the City of Stevens Point Water Department in bringing their
lands under sound forest management. Water Department
management objectives and constraints greatly influenced the
final character of the plan. The management plan was
developed in three parts: (1) timber stand description and
prescriptions, (2) schedule of forest operations, and (3)
timber stand summary. Following the prescribed
silvicultural treatment listed in this paper will enhance
the timber resource within the guidelines of the City of
Stevens Point Water Department.
