Abstract
In his 2022 interview with Asian American Studies Program Director Lori Lopez, Michael Thornton discusses his role in the Asian American Studies program at UW Madison. Thornton begins his story by talking about his background and identity, his academic career path, and his eventual arrival at UW Madison to teach. Thornton then discusses the early days of Asian American Studies, some difficulties with the program, and eventually becoming director of the program. Finally, Thornton talks about other efforts to build up the program, support from community members and students, and his priorities as director.
