Abstract

Mucin proteins are membrane-associated glycosylated proteins expressed by normal vertebrate epithelial cells. Specifically, the MUC-1 members serve to lubricate the epithelial surfaces protect from dehydration and serve as a barrier to infection in ovarian, airway, gastrointestinal tract, and pancreatic cells lining the ducts. In this poster, the reaction mechanisms of peptide synthesis using Fmoc- amino acids and coupling reagents (HBTu and HOBt) will be described.
