Abstract

A new optical technique to measure real time in-cylinder temperature was developed using fiber Bragg gratings. For this aim, a time multiplexing and a frequency multiplexing sensor system were designed and developed. This paper focuses primarily on the time multiplexing sensor system design and development. The time multiplexing sensor system was developed and experiments were performed on an HCCI engine located in Honda R&D in Japan using a 19-in-1 fiber Bragg grating array. These data represent the first successful measurements of real time in-cylinder temperatures by our group. The frequency multiplexing sensor system was developed in order to improve the measurement.
