Civil Rights Pilgrimage Immersion Experience

Abstract

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire campus and surrounding community, a twice yearly Civil Rights Pilgrimage immersion experience which provides an opportunity for students to enhance their multicultural experience and experience diversity in ways not fostered by the community make-up of Eau Claire. Students spend ten days immersed in the Deep South to learn about the Civil Rights Movement, visit major sites of significance to the Movement from the 1950s to the 1970s, and hear firsthand accounts of experiences from people who were active in the movement. This project examines the impact that immersion experience.
