In his 2012 interview, ?Woody? Carey talks about his upbringing in a rural community in Pennsylvania under tough circumstances. He explores his education, both institutional and sexual. Woody gradually became aware of his gay identity after witnessing repression of homosexuals, and he simultaneously repressed his same sex feelings. After many years of happy marriage and fathering two children ?? after successfully being the first in his family to graduate high school, college, and graduate school ?? Woody eventually disclosed his gay identity to his wife. After becoming an Presbyterian minister, he moved to Madison at the same time he separated from his wife, where he preached at Parkside Presbyterian Church. He worked in the church throughout the AIDS epidemic, conducting sex education trainings, officiating gay weddings, and funeral of AIDS victims. He continues his work in the Madison gay community, and Presbyterian church.en
