Abstract
Sixth grade is a very exciting and interesting time for children where multiple life changes occur, including the type of school setting that 11 and 12 year olds attend. Each school district has the choice of placing sixth graders in either an elementary school or a middle school setting. When comparing the two different sixth grade groups, does the level of school influence their social skills level? In the present study, social skill levels between sixth graders in an elementary school setting and sixth graders in a middle school setting were examined. Seventy-six sixth grade teachers completed an online survey regarding the social skills of students in their class. Results showed there was no significant difference in social skill levels between sixth graders in an elementary school setting and sixth graders in a middle school setting.
