Within the past few years, many Maya archaeologists have addressed the significance of feasting in ancient Maya society and the way in which this ritual can be identified through the use of special ceramic vessels. The use of these special ceramic vessels can be best seen throughout the Classic Period (A.D. 250-900) at suspected elite feasting sites. The use of these ceramic vessels and feasting practices can be traced through specific vessel types and codex (hieroglyphic) inscriptions written on special polychrome drinking vessels. Research on the existing literature initiates a series of ideas and hypotheses that can be assembled to document the societal and archaeological significance of Classic Maya ceramic vessels in feasting.en
