The Concepts of Self and Their Implications for Counseling

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to provide the student involved in a graduate program of Counseling the tools with which he may investigate the implications of a concept of "self" in the counseling relationship. This study does not attempt to be the definitive work in the area, such a task would be impossible in a work of this size. There is, however, a felt need tor an introductory work that would point to some of the important areas of consideration to make available an annotated list of read1ngs to supplement the deficiences of this study. At the beginning of each chapter the reader will find a list of questions. The reader may find it helpful to have these in mind as be goes through the pages that follow. At the end of the main body of the text the reader will find a glossary of terms with which he may be unfamiliar. These terms are noted by small case letters in the text.
