Abstract

Code-switching (CS) is a common phenomenon in English classes in China. This study explores the application of CS in Chinese EFL primary school classrooms. Through the literature review, not only the definition and classification of CS are discussed, but also the advantages and risks of using CS are explored. The study found that although CS has many advantages for EFL primary school classrooms in China, teachers need to maintain a balance between using students' native language and target language, avoid abuse of CS, and adjust strategies in time according to teaching results.
