Abstract
Oral stories were collected from adults with culturally diverse backgrounds (American Indian and Hmong). These stories were audio-taped, transcribed and analyzed for length, cohesion, sequencing, story grammar elements, and linguistic commplexity. The stories were then compared to normative data for stories told by individuals from European descent. Several stories will then be chosen and adapted to include elements that are considered important for literacy.
