Abstract

Two separate cases involving late onset of stuttering were compared. Both were the only cases of late onset stuttering evaluated in the past 15 years at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire Center for Communication Disorders, where only six to eight cases of childhood stuttering are evaluated each year (i.e., n=90-120). A male and a female client were selected on the basis of being the only individuals of a similar age (11-12 years old) when evaluated, whose parents reported a late onset of stuttering (9-11 years old). A clinical retrospective design was used to evaluate diagnostic and observation data from case files in order to contrast the cases.
