This paper describes a GPS methodology for cadastral surveying and mapping at the individual parcel or block level. It was designed initially to take into account the particular demands and realities of Albania, but has subsequently been developed for general application in developing countries which are in the process of developing a cadastre and land registration system (CLRS). The paper begins with a discussion of the needs of cadastral surveying and mapping in developing countries as a means of defining the design criteria for the methodology. The methodology is then described in terms of office preparation, field procedure, post-processing and geodetic infrastructure requirements. The results of research carried out at a test site at the University of Florida and under field conditions in Albania are presented. The final part of the paper draws conclusions from work to date and outlines additional research needs.en
