Black Womanhood and Black Aesthetics in Art Education collects a series of detailed interviews via five Black women artists and art practitioners in order to understand Black aesthetic practice as a form of art and self-representation, but also inform a larger audience on the role of Black women in visual art as cultural preservationists and shapers of place. The study applies Black Feminist Thought Reimagined and Womanist practice and theory and Thirdspace as methodology into Art Education to re-position, re-vision, and document the continuum of Blackness and Black womanhood. Black Womanhood and Black Aesthetics in Art Education offers a viewpoint that has been disproportionately illuminated throughout history by shedding light on the experiences of Black women in visual art.
