University of Wisconsin-Madison Official Institutional Records

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Archives and Records Management Service is an official state records repository (Stats. 16.61 (13) ). The establishment of this community is an attempt to meet statutory obligations to preserve and make available official University records that have been available in hard copy in the University Archives but now are created in digital format only. Some of the records slated to be captured and placed in this community to include: timetables, course bulletins, enrollment reports, and the budgets.

Official institutional records are defined as those that:

• establish policy
• explain policy and procedures
• support a transaction
• provide information upon which an individual or entity will make a decision or receive a benefit
• describe University programs and services.
