Description
The purpose of this thesis is to specifically examine freeze-frame/slow-scan videoconferencing. In doing so, it provides a technical explanation of slow-scan theory, equipment, and operation. In addition, it explores the viability and appropriateness of freeze-frame as a medium for educational and (to a lesser degree) business meetings, seminars, classes and conferences. Such areas as cost, ease of operation, visual effectiveness, and user acceptance are addressed within the context of an in-depth study of the University of Wisconsin-Extension's new 26-site freeze-frame network.
General comparisons of freeze-frame with full-motion videoconferencing are also made, particularly in the areas of cost and accessibility of conference locations.
